Hiriyadka, June 27, 2014: Thanks to the craze for the English medium education among the ruralfolk, several schools are on the verge of closing down.  Despite the government introducing several schemes for the uplift of government schools, several government schools are facing threat of closure.

A Government Higher Primary School that has seen 104 years of existence at Anjar is facing closure owing to shortage of students during the current academic year.  The school had centenary celebrations in 2010. At present, there are only five students pursuing their studies from first to seventh standard in the school. There is one student each in third, fifth and sixth standard and two students in seventh standard. There are no students in first, second and fourth standard. 

No new students were admitted to the school during the academic year. There is no dearth of infrastructure facilities in the school. The school has full-fledged seven class teachers and a kitchen. In fact, with the help of donors, the school had made arrangement for the transportation of the students last year. However, all these measures failed to woo students.  The school has also made arrangement for the supply of mid-day meals. There are five teachers in the school.
