Udupi:  Students of higher primary and high schools were beaming with pride with their research innovations at the six-day science model expo-cum-competition at SMVITM Engineering College in Bantakallu.  The little technologists, focusing on the problems encountered by people, came up with new concepts that would help the people in long run.

A Class VIII student of SVVN English Medium School in Barkur has come up with solar grass cutting machine.  She told visitors that the mechanism would help farmers perform their work in minimum time and also the equipment is not too expensive.

A girl of  Government Higher Primary School in Vaddarse explored new ideas to explain the process of the solar and lunar eclipses.  A boy from the same school has an invented rally electric chamber. While a youngster from MSVM Higher Primary School in Aroor has come up with a multipurpose working machine where the machine can pull water from water tanks and ponds and during leisure the machine can separate the cereals from the crust and other particles.  He said he studied the technology in a book and decided to work on it. He added that the instrument when produced on a large scale would be economically feasible. PVC pipes, electric motor and cylinders have been used as major components.

A student of Christ School in Manipal developed an electricity generation machine by burning domestic waste. He said the solid domestic waste can be burnt and later dropped into the hopper of the furnace. When the doors slide, it falls into the burning chamber. Gas is used for the flame at high temperature. The steam is used to turn the turbines of the electric chamber, through which the power is generated.

One from Government Composite College, Manur has invented a service station for the vehicles using the spray machine.

The children also displayed speed controller using electromagnet, areca nut disease checking machine, equipment aiding energy production by air, water sprinkler, bio-waste dustbin, solar drier, water heater, irrigation machine and many others which were enthusiastically displayed and  in-depth explanations given by the inventors who were not second to any others.
