Mangalore, Nov 28: The power tariff hike surprisingly did not create uproar in Mangalore because people were expecting it any day. However, many feel that Mescom must improve the quality of its services.
The Convener of Nagarika Hitha Rakshana Samithi Hanumantha Kamath gave voice to common opinion when he said that the Mescom should raise the quality of its service and avoid load shedding. Weekly power cuts have almost become a habit of Mescom, which claims that maintenance work is being undertaken during these power cuts. Hanumantha Kamath said that he does not understand what maintenance work is being undertaken by Mescom every week.
He informed that one of the biggest reasons for power shortage is Mescom providing power to buildings that have not yet submitted required documentation such as completion reports. Mr. Kamath suggested that Mescom stop providing power to such buildings to prevent power shortage.
Member of Balakedarara Hithrakshana Vedike Dinesh Bhat said that power theft in the district is not as high as it is in other regions of the state. Therefore, there was no need to hike power tariff.
K Jayraj Pai of Kanara Small Industries Association is also of the opinion that Mescom must avoid load shedding and provide power 24X7 hours.
