Citizens should support police in maintaining law

Mangaluru, Sep 11, 2016: Speaking on ’Crime, Youth and Society’ after inaugurating Rostrum, a public speakers’ club organised by Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mumbai police officer Daya Nayak, ’Encounter Specialist’, said moral policing will not make the system proper. Instead, citizens supporting police in maintaining and following law will make a difference, he said.

He said Indian police work harder and function more effectively than Scotland Yard Police. "What makes difference between Indian police and Scotland Yard is the cooperation the Scotland Yard police receive from people. It is absent in India. Moreover, Indians also lack the sense to abide by the law," he remarked.

He called upon the students to excel in one field and serve the country. To a query, he said, "If I am getting punishment for good work, I will not go back from doing that. If I am found guilty, law will punish me."

He said the Police Act has not been amended even after more than 70 years of Independence. "We still follow the outdated Police Act," he regretted, advising, "Success is a guaranteed virtue. But it takes excellence and calibre to achieve it. As long as an individual’s conscience is clear, no one can stop him from achieving any heights in life."

Alva’s Education Managing Trustee Vivek Alva, AIET Principal Dr Peter Fernandies, Rostrum president Raksha Satish, secretary Murali Krishna Achari were present.
