Mangaluru, Sep 11, 2017: At the phone-in programme of the Commissioner on Sept 8, Friday.City residents’ demand to shift the protest venue from in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and the central business district area cropped up again after Thursday’s ‘Mangaluru Chalo’. Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh said on Friday that he would examine it.
The traffic issues in the city during the protest meeting of the BJP at Ambedkar Circle and during its workers’ march to the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday prompted a citizen to raise the issue again during the phone-in programme of the Commissioner on Friday.
The caller, urged the police to notify a designated place out of the busy areas for holding protests and dharnas in the city. The caller said that this demand was pending for long. Holding protests near the Deputy Commissioner’s office has been causing problems for people as it affected free movement of traffic, he said.
PC Suresh said the demand was made when A.B. Ibrahim was the Deputy Commissioner. He said he would discuss the issue before the DK DC Dr. K.G. Jagadeesha and take action.
A resident of Urwa Market, said nothing had changed since his complaint last week of problem to residents because of parking of vehicles in the market area on Sundays. Commissioner assured him of posting a police constable on Sunday to regulate the parking.
A resident of Jeppu Market, asked to resume the drive against lorries, carrying fish, which have been spilling waste water on the road. Resident of Attavar, sought action against a bus of a school in the locality as students are accommodated in excess of the permitted number.
