City’s tallest 171 mts tower to be inaugurated Mar 12

Mangaluru : Those who have the money can now have an address in Mangaluru — Planet SKS — atop Kadri Hills. Planet SKS is said to be the tallest skyscraper in Mangaluru with a height of 125 metres. The 171-unit residential complex, the foundation stone for which was laid in December 2010, is set for inauguration on March 12,Saturday.

How many can hope to live in a luxury  four-bedroom 6,600 sq ft house or a three-bedroom 3,300-sq ft house enjoying ample light and air on a hilltop.

The three elderly women who had laid the stone, will now inaugurate, said principal promoter of the project Shashi Kiran Shetty. They women are his mother, his associate Sanath Kumar Shetty’s mother and his mother-in-law.

S K  Shetty told media that the Rs. 175-crore project was to be completed within four years, but was delayed. Planet SKS was built by Larsen & Tubro Ltd., with aluminium formwork technology on a 4.55-acre land, utilising just 10 per cent of the land for the structure. Granite excavated from the site was used for all common areas in the building while toughened glass was used for custom-designed aluminium windows.

It is a green building, having adopted solar and wind energy to light up common areas with LED fixtures, said Promoter, Shetty. The building is designed so as to reduce energy consumption and maximise natural ventilation. Grey water is recycled in an on-site sewage treatment plant while 80 per cent self-sufficiency in water is achieved through rainwater harvesting, he said.
