Comsumer forum finds unqualified "Doctor" responsible in leader’s death

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Aug 08, 2015:  Speaking to the media on Aug 7 Friday, the counsel for the family Latha C S Holla claimed that the Dakshina Kannada Consumer Forum Court had upheld the allegation and slapped a fine of Rs 15 lakh against the doctor who had treated the politician since 2004. She said that Hegde died on June 10, 2010.  The leader shared friendly relationship with the doctor. He believed him and his way of treatment.

Although the deceased suffered heart-related complications, the physician Dr Ashok Kumar Y G working in Okude Diagnostic in Kunjeebettu in Udupi did not reveal the fact that the former had blocks in two arteries.

To practice as nephrologist or cardiologist, one must have qualification from the recognized University and the above said physician just claimed himself nephrologist or cardiologist, which is utterly fake.  Latha said that the doctor always prescribed medicine for acidity and failed to recognise the heart problems suffered by the leader.

She said the Consumer Court gave the verdict on April 29, 2015, following which the fact of his lack of proficiency in the field was clear.  When Hegde suffered severe complications, he was referred to the Gandhi hospital and later the experts in Gandhi hospital referred the patient to Yenepoya hospital in Mangaluru and not to KMC, which was nearby.

The court has ordered for Rs 15 lakh compensation from the accused to the wife of the victim and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Gandhi Hospital for its failure to refer the patient to the nearest hospital and the ambulance that was provided lacked the medical facilities.
