Conference of Doctors discuss the lack of importance to Liver

Manipal , Feb 16, 2015:   Speaking after inaugurating national level one day conference "Update in Hepatology" organised by the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal on Feb 15, l Dr. Pradeep Kumar Dean KMC Manipal,   said media should spread awareness about liver and its diseases. 

Though liver is an important organ as kidney, when faced with the prospects of kidney failure people take extra care and treatment, but when liver fails, 95% of people will not even come to know about it.
 

The conference provided an opportunity for gastroenterologists, hepatologists and internal medicine specialists from the Nation to exchange ideas, discuss innovative methods and review new developments within the field. About 200 delegates participated in this National level programme.  Resource persons shared their knowledge and enlightened the audience on the entire liver related issues and deceases like liver failure, liver transplant, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.

Dr Ganesh Pai, Head of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal and also the organizing secretary stressed on the tremendous advances that have taken place in the field of Hepatology. He said the increasing complexities involved in the treatment of patients with multiple diseases occurring simultaneously, even as the expectations on the part of patients and their relatives have increased posing tremendous challenges in the treatment of liver disorders.The vital parameters needed were discussed.
