Udupi, Nov 29, 2016: Speaking at the protest rally on Nov 28, Monday at the clock tower in Udupi, the Youth Congress leader Amrith Shenoy said the prime minister has made the life of poor even more of a hell. Decision to demonetise currency would only help the affluent while the poor would be the worst sufferers. Cashless transaction in a country like India is far from being a reality.ions.
Congress leader Kishen Hegde Kolkebailu said that Congress had never indulged in creating distress for the people, especially the poor. The prime minister’s cynicism, similar to that of erstwhile ruler Mohammed Bin Tughlaq will not yield any potential results. He is the most shameless prime minister and always hesitates to come before the Parliament and seek the approval for his less sensible decisions, he said.
He pointed out that not many BJP ministers have supported the decision taken by the leader. He urged for an uninterrupted cash flow. The cooperative sectors which acted as the backbone of the rural economy are now paralysed. Poor women engaged in dairy farming and fishing are cursing the prime minister. It is chaos and confusion prevailing all over. People stand in queues outside banks and ATMs.
He added that the achievement of the prime minister is that the fake and illegal currencies were out within 24 hours of demonetisation. He also said that BJP leaders created fuss over the death of farmers but are now mum over people who die standing in queues for long hours.
Women Congress leader Jyoti Hebbar said that the BJP government has put poor women at risk. Rural people are suffering immensely as they are unable to arrange marriages. The BJP had Hindutva as its only agenda, however, now it has another agenda, which has created havoc in the lives of people, she added.
The agitators shouted slogans against the prime minister and demonetisation. Members of the district unit of CPI(M) also staged protest against the demonetisation decision taken by the prime minister on the occasion.
