Mangaluru, Nov 29, 2016: Reports confirm that in the recent state-level athletic meet at Dharwad, new records were set and old ones broken with great ease.
Athletes of Dakshina Kannada district were adjudged general champions at the concluding ceremony of the U-17 state-level boys and girls athletic meet held at R N Shetty stadium in Dharwad. A total of 2,600 students from 34 educational districts had taken part in the three-day sports meet. Both the boys and girls team of Dakshina Kannada continued their stronghold in track and field and bagged a total of 105 points. Udupi district bagged 63 points and were adjudged runners-up. Bengaluru team secured 18 points to win third place.
Jotsna of Dakshin Kannada who had created history in 400 meter race, scripted another record on the concluding day as she completed the 200 meter race in a span of 24.94 seconds and broke the previous record. D Varshini of Mysuru and P Varsha of Dakshin Kannada secured second and third position respectively.
In the boys 200 meter race too, a new record was established. Shashikanth Angadi, students of Sports School Bengaluru scripted a new record by finishing the race in 22.40 seconds. Abhan Devadiga of Udupi and Mahantesh Siddappa of Dakshin Kannada stood second and third respectively.
Dinesh Nayak of Udupi secured a total of 13 points to emerge the solo champion while in girls category the solo champion title was shared by Jotsna and V S Anita of Dakshin Kannada who bagged 10 points each.
