Mangalore, Aug 28, 2012 : Several Dalits voiced their grievances at the monthly SC/ST grievance meeting held at the Mangalore Commissionerate on August 26, Sunday. DCP Muthuraya chaired the meeting.
A Dalit girl said that she had registered a complaint with the Moodubidri police that she was receiving threatening calls from a man, but the police took no action against the man. The DCP immediately asked ACP Puttamadayya to investigate the case.
Karnataka Dalit Students’ Union Convener Jagadish Pandeshwar complained that the Moodubidri police do not take complaints lodged by Dalits seriously, adding that even higher officials ignore Dalits’ complaints. He warned that Dalit associations will hold a massive protest in front of the Moodubidri Police Station if this continues.
Koragappa, a member of the Moodubidri Town Municipality, complained that the Moodubidri tahsildar demolished Sanjeeva’s house without any notice. Although there are several illegal houses in the town, the tahsildar demolished only Sanjeeva’s house, he said, alleging that the police have refused to accept a complaint against the tahsildar. The DCP asked him to submit an appeal to the district commissioner as this matter is not connected to the police.
Representatives of several Dalit associations voiced their grievances on this occasion. Police officers ACP Subrahmanya, ACP T. R. Jagannath, Inspectors Manjunath, Venkatesh Prasanna, T. Basheer Ahmed, and Ravish were also present.
