Mangaluru, Dec 24, 2016: It is note worthy that new block of KMC Hospital at Ambedkar Circle, opp Jyothi, Mangaluru, will be inaugurated by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar at 9.30 am on December 25, Sunday. Briefing reporters, KMC Hospital Unit head Sagir Siddiqui said the new block has 200 beds, seven advanced OTs and 42 ICU beds.
The new block is an extension of the existing facility and is an all-encompassing destination with facilities in clinical services in all the specialties. Meanwhile, IBM Watsons for Oncology will be inaugurated at KMC Hospital in Mangaluru on the occasion. "IBM’s super computer called Watson Oncology is a dream come true for doctors and patients. The supercomputer will use artificial intelligence for diagnosis and treatment of cancer," said Oncologist Dr Krishna Prasad.
With this, the KMC Hospital, Mangaluru, will be the second hospital in the world to deploy Watson for oncology technology, the first being Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York. Here, the super computer will process the patient’s genomics data and case history and come out with tailor-made recommendations for treatment in 60 seconds. One can even find out the success rate of a treatment option, the possible side effects and toxicities of drugs, with the help of Watson Oncology.
