Mangaluru, April 6, 2016: Former MLA B. Appanna Hegde has called for a probe by a committee headed by Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai into the misuse of gold ornaments offered by devotees at the Sri Mookambika temple in Kollur.
It was revealed a month ago that a clerk at the temple, along with his accomplices, had misused the ornaments offered there by pledging them with banks and cooperative societies, the district police had swung into action and arrested the men.
Addressing presspersons here on Apr 4, Monday, B A Hegde said the police investigation has slowed down owing to pressure from powerful persons. While the clerk and his accomplices were arrested, no action was taken against the executive officer of the temple.
“The government should appoint a committee under . Annamalai and the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Kundapur sub-division, Manjunath Shetty, as they have a reputation of being honest and sincere,” Hegde stressed.
