Den near IGP’s house in city hub for immoral goings on

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Aug 31, 2017: In the heart of Mangaluru, a place has become a den of ‘indecent activities’ making life difficult for the residents nearby.  The place is located near the official residence of the IGP (Western range), which, ironically, has proven no reason for people to stop indulging in immoral activities.

A woman brought the issue to the notice of Mayor Kavita Sanil during the monthly phone-in programme on August 30, Wednesday, alleged that the illegal activities happen between 8 pm and midnight hours at a place near King’s Park.  The mayor who took note of the complaint promised to bring the matter to the notice of the police authorities. She also wanted to know whether it is the area located near the IGP’s house. The caller replied in the positive.

Twenty six calls were received during the hour-long exercise, some were from people residing in the vicinity of the MCC main office at Lalbagh. A caller drew the mayor’s attention towards the damaged road hump after the petrol bunk junction between Lady Hill Circle and MCC office, which has been causing many accidents. The waste collected during the events held at Karavali Maidan is dumped on the other side, severely inconveniencing the dwellers of a condominium, he complained further.

PG nuisance :  A senior citizen, complained against a paying guest accommodation near Hotel Janata Deluxe, which has been dumping leftovers in the drain nearby. He pointed out that it may trigger health issues with the region prone to Malaria and Dengue fever.

A hotelier from Lalbagh complained against petty shops turned into fast food joints near Pabbas ice cream parlour, that has been eating into his business. While the regular traders were paying due taxes and rent, they have been acting according to their whims and fancy by selling food prepared at home, he added.

There were also calls demanding the repair of Bibi Alabi Road between Bunder Police station and State Bank of India junction, Kandakapally road.

Strangely, a caller suggested the mayor introduce pay and park exclusively for two-wheelers at select roads in the city.

WhatsApp next?

Mayor Kavita Sanil on Aug 30, Wednesday said she will explore the possibilities of introducing a dedicated WhatsApp number to receive complaints from the public.  Following a particular suggestion from one of the callers, during the phone-in, the mayor later told media, “I will look into it, as it may help people to post complaints along with substantiating photographs.”
