Mangaluru, Feb 19, 2015: The oil marketing companies, as part of their corporate social responsibility activities, are providing LPG connection wherein the initial cylinder and regulator deposit amounting to Rs 1,600 is not charged for.
The beneficiaries will have to pay for the hose, lighter, gas book, and stove as well as administrative charges. Representative from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in-charge of LPG sales said the Suraksha hose costs Rs 190, lighter Rs 125, gas stove Rs 1,600, blue book Rs 50, along with administrative charges of Rs 100. "Purchasing the gas stove and lighter is optional," he said, adding those who have their own gas stoves should pay Rs 250 towards inspection charges.
They have to then purchase the LPG cylinder at market rates. BPL families who have applied for deposit-free LPG connections through their respective urban local bodies have time up to March 31 to obtain the same.

Once the beneficiaries switch over to LPG, their current allotment of kerosene will be cancelled, said Sharananabasappa, deputy director, department of food and civil supplies. The department needs time to comply with the KYC norms, he said, urging the beneficiaries to comply with the documentation at the earliest.
Applicants should submit photocopies of the BPL card, bank account pass book, and a photograph to their respective LPG dealer and obtain the deposit-free LPG connection, he said. The department will not supply kerosene to applicants if they fail to meet the March 31 deadline, he said, adding the move is also aimed at a government policy of ensuring kerosene free cities and reducing the huge amount of subsidy that is expended on providing this fuel to end users.
DK DC A B Ibrahim instructed OMCs to effectively take up this issue at the customer relation meet planned by each company at their respective dealership, starting February 23.
These meets are held as per the directive issued by the administration to sort out issues that the consumers may have with regard to their LPG connections, he said, adding that the meets will be held in 35 locations up to March 31. Each of these meets will start at 11am, the DC noted for information to all concerned.
