Mangaluru, Dec 29, 2019: A motor sailing vessel MV SG Star with the port of registration New Mangalore, with seven crew on board, with its engine developing a serious technical snag when the dhow was over 65 nautical miles from Mangaluru, was helped by Indian Coast Guard ship Savitribai Phule.
ICGS Savitribai Phule, which was on coastal surveillance patrol off Karnataka-Goa Coast, was diverted to render the assistance on receipt information from the headquarters, Coast Guard Region (West), Mumbai. Damage Control Team, along with the technical team of ICGS Savitribai Phule, embarked on the vessel MV SG Star in distress and controlled the flooding and restored the vessel’s main engine. The vessel entered Mangaluru Old Port safely, said Coast Guard Commander S S Dasila. The success of yet another rescue was lauded.
