Mangaluru, Dec 03, 2015: Twenty beneficiaries of motorised tricycles will not get the tricycles at the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, on December 3, at Town Hall in Mangaluru.
While the beneficiaries had been selected by the Department of Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens, the distribution has been stalled thanks to the Model Code of Conduct that is in force as part of the election process for the Council from Dakshina Kannada local bodies constituency.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Vasanth Shetty of Saanidhya Residential School for the Mentally Challenged said that the Model Code of Conduct is proving a hurdle for the distribution of 20 motorised tricycles.
"The tricycles have already arrived and are parked on the premises of the Zilla Panchayat office. The officials have promised to distribute it to the beneficiaries after the election is conducted," he said.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities will be organised jointly by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and Lions Club at Gandhinagara on Thursday at 10.30 am.
As a part of the celebrations, children with disabilities and members of various NGOs will take out a procession from University College premises till the Town Hall. Senior Civil Judge and District Legal Services Authorities member secretary Ganesh B will flag off the rally.
Shetty said that students of 10 special schools, Mangala Jyothi Integrated School and Ashrama inmates will take part in the programme.
