District administration to crack down on illegal ITI institutions

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 9, 2012 : The DK district administration is making preparations to crack down on all institutions offering ITI courses without getting the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) affiliation. Official records show that only 21 institutions in DK are recognized by the NCVT.

The DK and Udupi District Private ITI Employees Association (PIEA) suspect that there are at least 25 institutions offering ITI courses without getting an NCVT affiliation.

Y. N. Salian, PIEA president, said that the NCVT, which is under the union ministry of labour and employment, must recognize an institution before it can start offering ITI courses. He said that these illegal institutions award certificates issued by private agencies in Hyderabad, Chennai, and Mumbai, which are useless to students applying for government jobs. Besides, the passport authority will not issue passports with “emigration not required” provision for applicants submitting ITI certificates without NCV recognition, he said.

DC N. S. Channappa Gowda said that he will order an investigation and take steps to eliminate illegal ITIs.
