Mangalore, May 8: The district administration plans to establish an information centre (Mahiti Kendra) within a couple of months to protect the citizens from becoming victims of unscrupulous real-estate agents or property developers.
DC V. Ponnuraj said during a press conference that the information center will be jointly set up by Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), Revenue Department, Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA), and the Sub-registrar’s Office.
He said that prospective purchasers will receive service in two phases. First, they will receive information regarding the procedures involved in the purchase of land and the documents required for transaction. Prospective purchasers who proceed in the approved manner will receive approval in the second phase, he said.
Drawing attention to real-estate agents who were involved in selling 2 -3 cents to poor people, he warned purchasers to be careful about purchasing this land. He urged people to purchase land in authorized extensions only. Improper methods of land purchase leads to lack of basic amenities such as underground drainage and roads, he informed.
Real estate agents purchase land from farmers, convert it into sites, and sell it without providing underground drainage facilities and roads, he said and added that three Bhoomi Centres will be set up in Mangalore for distribution of RTCs.
