Mangalore, Nov 21, 2012: Eco Be Green and Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samithi will jointly organize a campaign against use of plastic bags at Hotel Ocean Pearl on Nov 24 at 10:00 a.m.
Ashwath Hegde, co-founder of Eco Be Green, told reporters at a press conference held at Press Club today that the district administration has banned the production and use of plastic carry bags to keep Mangalore pollution free, clean, and green.
Further, he said that Kota Shrinivas Poojary, minister for ports and muzrai, will inaugurate the campaign and will distribute cotton carry bags free of cost on the occasion. The chief guest will be Dr. B. M. Hegde, former vice chancellor of Manipal University. The guests of honor will be MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik and Manjunath Bhandary, chairman of Sahyadri Educational Institutions.
The objective of the campaign is to educate the public about the adverse effects of plastic bags. The organizations aim to make the coastal region free of plastic.
A reusable cotton carry bag drive will also be launched and 50,000 cotton carry bags will be distributed free of cost at malls, petrol pumps, theatres, college campuses, temples, railway stations, and bus stops for the next three months.
Rotarian Ananth Prabhu, co-founder of Eco Be Green, and Rotarian M. V. Mallya, media consultant, were also present.
