Mangalore, Nov 29, 2012 : The elections for standing committee posts for the Taluk Panchayat were held on Nov 27, Tuesday. When the meeting began, the members of the opposition Congress complained that the president was not punctual and that the meeting began late. Even when the president finally arrived, members of the Congress stayed away. When President Harish and MLA Krishna Palemar urged the members of the Congress to take part in the meeting, they finally agreed.
The resulting peace, however, was short lived. As soon as the procedure for the election of the president of the standing committee began, differences of opinion began arising among members of different parties.
When things finally settled down, the elections continued, but there was confusion once again when some said that they wanted unanimous selections instead of elections. Finally, the members decided to raise their hands to choose a president.
