Udupi, March 3, 2014: State Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar has said that the government would ensure steps to see that there is no load-shedding during exam times in the best interest of the student community.
He was speaking to reporters here on March 2, Sunday after inspecting the Varahi hydro-electric power project of the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited. The Minister further said all measures would be taken to put an end to the technical problems that resulted in frequent power cuts in the coastal region.
He said that the government had plans to purchase power from other states and added that an agreement will be signed to purchase 450 mw power from Damodar Valley Project in Kolkata. Shivakumar also informed that the state would purchase power from other states if they offer power at the rates fixed by the government.
He also assured steps to see that the power generated by UPCL benefits the district. The Varahi project envisages generation of 460 mw of electricity. Prior to his Udupi visit, the Energy Minister visited Kollur and offered prayers to Goddess Mookambika.
