Mangalore, Dec 12: The Muslim Merchants’ Association staged a protest against Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) near Kudroli on Dec 11, Friday, during which they burned an effigy of VHP leader Jagadeesh Shenava.
The VHP in collaboration with the Bajarang Dal had staged a protest against Love Jihad in Konaje. During the protest, Jagadeesh Shenava made a speech that reportedly hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslim community.
Ali Hasan, the president of the Muslim Merchants’ Association, said the VHP leader made a number of derogatory remarks against the Muslim community. His speech reflected his ignorance of the truth and hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims, he said.
Ali Hasan further said that Shenava’s remarks were anti-social and harmful to communal harmony. He demanded the immediate arrest of the VHP leader. He also said that the protest was being staged in order to coax the district administration as well as the police department to take stern action against Shenava.
The leaders of the Democratic Youth Front of India (DYFI) and the Popular Front of India (PFI) protested against the VHP leader and demanded his immediate arrest for attempting to destroy communal harmony.
