Udupi, Nov 25, 2016: Delivering the maiden K S N Adiga Memorial Endowment lecture on ’Banking Reforms and Digital India,’ at Udupi,   former vice chancellor of Sido Kanhu Murmu University (Jharkhand), Prof M Basheer Ahmed Khan, has said that the banking sector in the country is poised for a huge technological advances in the next 30 years.  VC  Khan said that the blend of technology and banking would be such that brain chips will be integrated followed by incorporation of more technical devices.  Prof Khan disclosed that he has launched a signature campaign for cashless transactions and it has received an overwhelming response with thousands of people supporting it. "If it becomes a reality-with more people using plastic money against cash, it will not just ensure an egalitarian system, but also help in fighting black money," he said.

Khan recalled the reforms in banking system that began in the country with the nationalisation of 20 banks during the tenure of the prime minister Indira Gandhi.

Vice chancellor of Mangalore University Prof K Byrappa said the endowment lecture was launched as a fitting tribute to Adiga, who, as a syndicate member of Mysore University (later University of Mysore) with its jurisdiction spread till Dakshina Kannada district, was instrumental in setting up the postgraduate centre at Konaje, as a prelude to establishment of Mangalore University in the later days.

Prof Byrappa said he has requested P Jayaram Bhat, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka Bank Limited, to set up a study chair in the name of Adiga, also a former chairman of KBL, at the varsity. A minimum of Rs one crore is required to set up the chair and that would not be a big amount for the bank, he said. He also wanted the bank authorities to make endowment lecture a regular annual event along with a national seminar in memory of Adiga.

Deputy general managers of KBL Meera Aranha and Raghurama, University MBA Department chairman T N Sridhara and programme coordinator Prof Mustiary Begum were present. Mangalore University and Karnataka Bank Limited (KBL) had jointly organised the programme.
