Excise police arrest bus employees for smuggling liquor

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Oct 4, 2012: The Mary Hill Excise Police have arrested three men working on Ganesh Travels, a private bus, for illegally transporting liquor from Goa to Mangalore.

The arrested are Ashok and Venkappa, drivers of the bus, and Vishwanath, the cleaner. The excise police have confiscated 40 bottles of illegal liquor from the bus. They have also seized the bus.

The excise police suspect that more people are involved in smuggling illicit liquor through private buses. Smugglers feel safe on private buses because they ply on the same route regularly and excise authorities do not suspect them. Besides, luggage is rarely checked in private buses.
