Mangaluru, Nov 05, 2015: At the Dakshina Kannada District-level Vigilance and Supervision Committee meeting on Nov 4, Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha Member Nalin Kumar Kateel, said he would schedule the inauguration of the exit road from Mangaluru International Airport on January 1 in concurrence with the district in-charge minister.
The announcement came after an official of KRDCL - Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd. informed that is executing the road work and the construction would be completed by December-end.
Presiding over the meeting, MP Kateel expressed displeasure over the abnormal delay in the construction of the road, which should have eased commuting to and from the airport considerably. KRDCL’s track record has been pathetic, the MP remarked. The official said issues with regard to land acquisition and underground water springs delayed the work. The agency has addressed both the issues now and the work is progressing well.
Started in 2012, the work on the 1.2-km exit road has missed many deadlines. As the air traffic has increased considerably over the years through the airport, movement of vehicles to and from the airport too has increased tremendously. In addition, MIA has also been handling cargo requiring movement of cargo-laden vehicles to the airport and the existing road is obsolete.
