Expo presents innovative inventions at SIT

Mangaluru, May 10, 2015: SIT -  Srinivas Institute of Technology,  Valacchil, created waves among the people and technologists with their many innovative gadgets.  The students chose to convert their technical knowledge and skills to interactive applications to be put to a greater use in future.The project team comprising Roystan Vijay Castelino, Kesha Shresthta M,  Nishal Mascarenhas and Khongdup Ridian designed high altitude wind technology which makes use of wind energy generated while flying a kite.

Explaining the project Castelino said that the device a set of wheels which are in turn connected to a storage battery. When the kite flies in the air, the force of the wind makes the wheels rotate. Energy which is generated by the rotation of wheels, is stored in the battery, for use to work appliances.

Another team comprising Ajith Shetty, Sachin S and Shivprasad M put together a solar powered grass cutter cum floor cleaner which gets energy from the solar panels attached to the device. The device could be moved by the remote control and according to the movement, the blades attached to the device trims the grass.   The device could also be used as floor cleaner. The stored water sprinkles water on floor while the device is moved and the wipers attached to the bottom of the device, clean the floor.

A team of lady students Preemal Helen Mascarenhas, Priyanka, Nireeksha and Smrithi, developed a personal health monitoring device called ’Physiodroid’, based in  a mobile device. The temperature and heart beat of a patient is recorded through a device, by placing the thumb on a special  transmitting  device. The data is sent to a database, from which it is directly sent to the doctor. The doctor, who may be far away could access the data, through an android application in his mobile and send the prescription through the same app. The patient gets the doctors feedback through the SMS.

Another team Deepa K and Katageri Prerna Vishwanath came up with a project to detect and prevent wild animal intrusions. The device, makes use of a camera,which detects the animals thorough its physical features and generates scary sounds and artificial fire, which makes the animals flee.

"Autonomous Ornithopter’, a project created by Mohammed Yaseen M A Jaishik Kotian, Vishwaretha K R, was a surveillance device.

’Click a kick’, designed by Mahesh Lakshman Bhide, Niketha M B, Rakesh K P and Shridhar Rao,  a life safety device, based on Raspberry PI for bikes. Bt attaching the device, the bike would only start only after the rider puts his helmet on. This would save the rider a lot of trpuble, the students said.

Chief Guest Abhilasha Gaonkar of Manager-Talent Acquisitions of Bengaluru-based "Aricent", called upon students to research for knowledge and develop right values and  attitudes  for  learning. SIT Principal Shrinivas Mayya D, College Aeronautical Engineering department Head and exhibition convenor Ramakrishna N Hegde and MBA Department Head Prof Hariprakash U P were present.

A total of 275 projects were exhibited. Among them, nine have been sponsored by Karnataka State Council for Science and technology and four projects have been shortlisted for RUSI award instituted jointly by Rotary Udyog Bengaluru and Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA).
