Families of plane crash victims wait for DNA test reports

Mangalore, May 24: 136 of the 158 bodies of the Mangalore plane crash victims have already been identified and handed over to respective families for last rites. The relatives of 22 plane crash victims are still awaiting DNA test reports in order to identify their deceased loved ones, said Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh during a press conference held at the commissioner’s office on May 24, Monday. 


He informed journalists that the forensic team from Hyderabad had collected the required samples from the families and the dead bodies and has returned to Hyderabad this morning by special flight.

Assuring that the department is in touch with the forensic experts, he informed the families of the victims that they have promised to complete the DNA tests as early as possible, 


Of the 22 unidentified bodies, 4 are in the mortuary of Colaco Hospital, 4 are in Fr. Mullers Hospital, 3 in KMC Hospital, 2 in City Hospital, 2 in Tejaswini Hospital, 2 in SCS Hospital, and 5 at KS Hegde Hospital. Eight of these unidentified plane crash victims from Kerala and 14 are residents of Karnataka. 


Police criminal cases have been registered at Bajpe police station; and all the property recovered from the bodies as well as the site of the crash is kept safe in police custody.
