Mangaluru:  MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, told media  on the sidelines of a function at Krishi Vigyan Kendra that, the Union government has given approval for a  fisheries jetty at Kulai, a government order to this effect would soon be issued.

The fisheries  jetty would be built with funds from the Union government, State government and New Mangalore Port Trust. Regarding the progress of works at Balpa village in Dakshina Kannada under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, the MP t he said that about 35 solar street lights had been installed.

Also  hospital building was being refurbished.  Gram panchayat building in the village would be re-built on the lines of Mini-Vidhana Soudha so that all government services pertaining to the village should be available under one platform.  He added that works worth Rs. 5 crore would be taken up in the village in the current financial year.

MP  Kateel said that he was thinking of building a garden, walking path, a meditation centre, yoga training centre and library under one roof on a five-acre land between Keanya and Balpa. It should attract tourists.

Apiculture  :   MP Kateel said,  addressing farmers at an awareness function on government schemes at Krishin Vigyan Kendra, he said that there would be scope for dairying, coconut and paddy cultivation and apiculture in Dakshina Kannada in the coming years.  MP  Kateel, who is a member of Coconut Development Board, said that there was a plan to develop a coconut park in the district with public-private-participation.  About 60 acres would be required for it. Land was being identified.
