Five-year-old girl, grandmother rescued

Mangaluru, Aug 11, 2015: Childline personnel on Monday saved a five-year-old girl and her grand mother from Surathkal bus stand.

A release on Monday said the personnel from the Childline and Child Protection unit found the two involved in begging. The two had been begging at several places in the city. They had come to the city six months ago from Rajasthan.

The release said the child’s grandmother has still not revealed the identity of the girl’s parents. The two have been rehabilitated in a temporary accommodation provided by the State government, the release said.



Fisherman’s body found


Udupi, Aug 11, 2015: The body of a fisherman, who had accidentally fallen from a boat and gone missing at Baputhotha on August 8, was found washed over on the beach at Padukere near Malpe on Monday.

The Malpe police said Krishna Anchan (55), a resident of Kotathattu, was standing on a boat at the third stage of Malpe fisheries harbour at Baputhota, when he accidentally slipped and drowned in the sea on August 8.

His body was found washed at the beach in nearby Padukere village.

A case had been registered, the police said.

Man hit by truck dies

A pedestrian was severely injured when he was hit by a lorry at Belman village coming under Karkala taluk on Monday.

The police said Jaggu was crossing the road, when a lorry moving from Karkala to Padubidri hit him.

A severely injured Jaggu died on the way to the hospital. Rash and negligent driving of the lorry driver is said to be the cause of the accident. A case had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.
