Udupi, August 23, 2012 : A forest department team rescued a leopard, which had fallen into a well at Jarkala Mudli in Shirlal in Karkala on Tuesday.

Satish N., Karkala Range officer, said that a ladder was lowered into the well to rescue the cat and, once it came out, it was released into the Kudremukh National Park. He said that the forest department team rushed to the spot as soon as it got the information and rescued the animal. The police helped control the crowds throughout the rescue operation.

Initially reluctant, the leopard finally decided to climb the ladder and walk into a cage placed on top of the ladder at around 9:15 p.m.

The rescued animal was then taken to the Karkala Range Forest office, where a veterinary doctor examined it on the morning of Wednesday. The animal was then released into the Gangamoola forest, which comes under Kudremukh National Park.

The veterinary doctor said that it was a two-year-old female leopard.

Local people say that the creature fell into the well on the night of Monday and crowded into a corner where there was no water.
