Forest officials arrest 2 sandalwood smugglers

Karkala, May 7: The forest officials of Karkala have arrested 2 persons for smuggling sandalwood on the night of May 5, Wednesday. The officials have confiscated sandalwood and a Bajaj Pulsar motor bike, both worth Rs 1 lakh. 

The arrested are B. Moideen (46), son of N.Fakruddin, and Abdul Razak (27), son of Moideen Kunhi, from Ira in Bantwal. They were transporting sandalwood from Kukkundoor to Manjeshwar when the forest officials intercepted their bike. 

The two were produced in court on Thursday and have been remanded to judicial custody till May 20. 

Sathish, the range forest officer at Karkala, is investigating the case.
