Mangaluru, July 10, 2016: It is intimated officially that The foundation stone laying ceremony for the renovation of the Sri Kankadasa Mandira near the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple Udupi will be held on July 10, Sunday (Today).

Speaking to media, Om Sri Krishnamurthy, secretary of the Bhakta Kanakadasa Mandira Jeernodhara Samiti, said that the renovation of the mandira was estimated to cost Rs. 1.25 crore. The renovation of the shrine would be completed in November.

Late Malpe Madhwaraj, the then Udupi MLA, and father of Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports, Pramod Madhwaraj, had constructed the Sri Kanakadasa Mandira or shrine here in 1965 and got an idol of the saint Sri Kanakadasa installed there. The then Chief Minister S. Nijalingappa had inaugurated the mandira.

The samiti had decided to renovate the Sri Kanakadasa Mandira. The renovated shrine would come up in the same place where it was now located. Instead of the present star shape, the renovated structure would be in a square shape. The shrine would be constructed by a team under the sculptor, Bhaskaran from Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu.

Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt, Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swami of Kaniyur Mutt and other seers of the Ashta Mutts of Udupi, and Siddharamananda Puri Swami of Kalaburgi division of Kaginele Mahasamsthan would participate in the ceremony. Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj, too, would be present.
