Mangalore, Nov 21: V Ponnuraj, the district commissioner, said that Global Positioning System (GPS) will be mandatorily installed on all buses in the district to enable speed regulation. Referring to the recent accident at Byndoor in which 11 people died, he said that it is high time to exercise control over the district buses.
GPS helps regulate the speed of buses and the directions in which they move, making it easier to control them. This system was once implemented in the past; but not all buses have installed GPS. For these reasons, GPS will be made compulsory for all buses plying within the district.
The DC also informed press people that private bus owners have issued a stay order against the introduction of government buses within city limits. He also said that the permits given to bus owners whose buses do not ply along specified routes will be cancelled as early as possible.
