Mangalore, May 19: B. Janardhan Poojary, the former MP of Mangalore, said that the governor has the power to dismiss G. Janardhan Reddy, the tourism and infrastructure development minister, from the BJP-led state government on grounds of making derogatory remarks against the governor. The minister explained that the governor is the director in the Obulapuram Mining Company.
Poojary, the former president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, informed reporters at Bangalore Press Club that the governor had issued a notice to Reddy on the basis of a complaint lodged by an MLC stating that the minister was looting the mineral wealth of the state in Bellary. Santhosh Hedge of the Karnataka Lokayukta had also submitted a report to the state government regarding the same issue.
Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa discussed the issue with Governor H. R. Bharadwaj on Monday. The chief minister said that he will arrange a meeting of the Reddy brothers with the governor to discuss the issue. The Supreme Court had permitted the Reddy brothers to operate mining activities in the state’s undisputed areas.
Mr. Poojary accused Venkaiah Naidu, the senior BJP leader of making undue remarks against the government to get elected into the Rajya Sabha. He reminded the Reddy brothers that the Supreme Court had warned them of stern action if they took up mining in disputed areas.
