Govt modifies eligibility for lecturers

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Feb 19, 2015: In a land mark relief for students who have passed MCom with BBM at the under-graduate level, the state government has recognized the same as an eligibility for them to join as assistant professors in government first grade colleges in Karnataka. Students who hitherto had done their MCom with BBM were ineligible to take up teaching profession and these students are given a chance  thanks to determined efforts.  anomaly.

A student who is currently working as assistant professor in Government First Grade College at Uppinangady in DK district told media the government in its order dated May 16, 2011 and subsequently notified in the Gazette on November 14 that year had limited the eligibility only to those who had completed their MCom with BCom degree. This order had effectively shut the doors of teaching for those who had done their MCom with BBM/BBA degrees.

Noting that there was similarity for BBM and BCom across Karnataka including the lone Central University in Kalaburagi, this 2011 order was flawed and detrimental to interests of scores of students across Karnataka who had completed their MCom with a BBM degree. Such aggrieved students had approached the KAT seeking justice and the tribunal had ruled in their favour on February 11, he said.

With the new government order dated February 12, 2015 clearing all confusions in this regard, the students are now a relieved lot and can focus on appearing for enrollment as assistant professors for posts across Karnataka that Karnataka Examinations Authority is scheduled to conduct. These students have time till February 28 to apply, he said, adding the new order also clarified that those who have done their PhD course work are exempt from NET.  The orders are yet to be officially confirmed.
