Group of 20 barges into house of Dalit woman; assaults two persons

Mangalore, Feb 2, 2014: A group of around 20 persons which barged into the house of a  Dalit woman at Arakerebail near Jeppu on February 1, Saturday night, assaulted  her and  a young man, also a Dalit who was in the house. It is suspected that a previous enmity which the assailants had with the youth resulted in the attack.

The victims are Yashoda (42) and Subhash (23), her relative. According to sources, the group which first targeted Subhash, later assaulted Yashoda too when she tried to prevent them.

 What has been gathered that in an earlier incident Subhash along with his group had  a clash with a rival team resulting in injuries to one of them.  A complaint was also lodged.

The accused in the case of assault on Saturday night have been identified as Manju, Jignesh, Naveen, Rahul, Avinash, Lakshmisha and Naveen.

The injured have been admitted to Wenlock Hospital. Pandeshwar police have registered a case.
