Groups against azaan over loudspeaker

Mangalre, May 26, 2014: Several members of ogroups such as the Hindu Janjagruti Samiti, the Sri Ram Sena and the Hindu Yuva Sena gathered in protest here on Sunday demanding that the government ban the recitation of azaan over loudspeakers in masjids early in the morning.

Claiming that the sleep of nearby residents was being disturbed, the protesters urged the government to ban the first prayers over loudspeaker (around 5 a.m. daily) and follow the Supreme Court’s verdict that bans the use of loudspeakers between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
