kasaragod, Nov 15, 2012 : Defense Minister A. K. Anthony will inaugurate Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s (HAL) Strategic Electronics Factory, which will manufacture advanced avionics for helicopter and aircraft, while Oommen Chandy, chief minister of Kerala, will inaugurate production facilities at Kasargod on Nov 17.
Speaking about the key role of avionics in the modern aircraft industry, HAL Chairman R. K. Tyagi said that the setting up of a sophisticated avionics manufacturing unit in Kasargod will result in better operational effectiveness and improved customer satisfaction.
Since the government of Kerala was willing to help industries set up plants, HAL decided to establish a unit at Kasargod because of factors such as availability of land, power, and water and good logistic facilities. The government had assigned 196 acres of land for the company, and Defense Minister A. K. Anthony laid the foundation stone for the factory buildings on August 23, 2008.
He said that Rs. 66 crore was spent on the first phase of this factory, adding that seven buildings are currently devoted to different activities.
