Mangalore, dec 16, 2013 : In a significant development, the Karnataka High Court has issued a stay to the criminal case filed against senior writer SL Bhyrappa in the JMFC Court in Mangalore.
Earlier, Bhyrappa had moved the High Court challenging the writ filed against him in the Mangalore court by a few raising strong objection to his articles in a daily.
The petitioners had contended that the write-ups of Bhyrappa had hurt their religious sentiments. Bhyrappa had in his articles stated Hindus were lured to convert into other religion and that crores of funds entered India for this purpose.
The High Court has ruled that the senior writer had only expressed his point of view and that it is not tantamount to any crime as everyone has the right to expression.
