Mangaluru, July 12, 2015: MLC IvanD’Souza, informed that a move by the state government to enhance house rent allowance to 20% of the basic pay as per reclassification of cities based on 2011 census will help around 14,100 state government employees.
This will also help employees working in KPTCL, Mescom, KSRTC, Mangaluru City Corporation, aided educational institutions, KMF, MUDA, collegiate education, cooperative societies, cooperative banks and other allied sectors.
MLC D’Souza said that chief minister Siddaramaiah in the council meet on February 5 said that since Mangaluru City Corporation was classified as a ’C’ category, the above-mentioned categories of employees did not benefit. However, the government - in its latest order dated July 4 - has reclassified it as ’B’ category.
Accordingly, the state government included Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Kalaburagi, and Belagavi City Corporations under ’B’ category of cities and state government employees in these cities too will benefit from the July 4 order. Noting that the above order comes into force on April 1, D’Souza exhorted the government employees to use the additional income to buy a home for themselves.
The additional income can be used towards EMI, it was persistence showed by the MLC in following up the issue since February and the magnanimity shown by the chief minister in accepting the idea take the 2011 cen sus data as the base, that has brought this windfall for employees. Mangaluru can be proud of it’s MLC.
