Mangalore, Aug 28, 2012 : Delivering the inaugural address at a ceremony held to inaugurate a series of endowment lecturers organized by the DK Zilla Kannada Sahithya Parishad at Sharada Vidyalaya on August 27, Monday, Pundalika Halambi, president of the Rajya Kannada Sahitya Parishad, said that possibilities of conducting the Akhila Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelana once in three years instead of once every year must be carefully considered.

He voiced his opinion that organizing the sammelana every year is a time-consuming procedure. If it is organized every three years, the working committee of the parishad will get more time to focus on other activities. He also spoke of the need to change the procedure of selecting the sammelan president.

Further, he said that a sub-committee formed by the parishad has recommended a number of proposals to amend the by-laws of the Sahitya Parishad. The creation of a new post of vice-president, meant exclusively for women, provision of reserved posts for Dalits and religious minorities, employment of democratic methods of electing TP presidents, and so on have been proposed. He also spoke of the need to implement a policy to make sure that one person can take over as the president of the parishad only once in his lifetime.

Announcing that a committee member’s conference is scheduled to be held in Dharmasthala on September 30, he said that the government has also released Rs. 25,000 for each TP. Further, he announced that 10 volumes of modern Kannada literature will be released during the centenary celebrations of the Rajya Kannada Sahitya Parishad.
