Mangalore, Mar 21, 2013 : Haveri based M/s Gujarat Ambuja Exports Ltd have chosen to export their containerized cargo of Liquid Glucose in hdpe barrels, through the New Mangalore Port. This has been a major boost to container traffic at NMPT.
The firm’s plant is located at Shiggaon in Haveri and the product was manufactured there and transported to NMPT in 25 Containers.
The consignment was loaded to MV Tiger Mango and will be shipped to Sudan in Africa. The vessel has already sailed out of the port. The entire operation was carried out by the handling agents, M/s Cargolinks and CHA, M/s MAERSK. The exporters have indicated a monthly volume of 100 TEUs through NMPT.
Dr. P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of NMPT has expressed gratitude to the firm for opting New Mangalore Port for the export of cargo, while it otherwise used to transport its cargo through neighbouring ports.
The pro-active marketing efforts of the Port over the last few years, has been thus successful in attracting more firms and has led to increased frequency of container vessels for efficient handling of containers.
As on date during 2012-13, the port handled 45,265 TEUs as against 43,278 TEUs handled during the corresponding period of previous year, registering a growth rate of 4.59 per cent, said a press release from D Mahadevaiah, Traffic Manager of NMPT.
