Mangalore, Aug 08, 2014:  For the third consecutive day schools and colleges remained closed in the temple town Kukke Subrahmanya after the Kumaradhara Bridge was again submerged on August 7,  from 7.am to 3.pm.

The district has been receiving down pours since the last few days and it continued heavy on August 7.  The five taluks of the district received 88.1mm for the 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Aug 7. For the same day last year, the district had received 42mm of rainfall.

While Belthangady taluk received the highest rainfall of 107mm, Sullia received the least at 64mm. Rest of the taluks the rainfall was as follows: Bantwal (109mm), Puttur (87.5mm) and Mangalore (71.9mm).  Though the normal average for the August month  was 258mm last year, this year it is near double at 531mm.
