Mangalore, Nov 14: A small family comprising a mother and her handicapped son are now in a hapless situation following the collapse of their hut at Bengre-Bokkapattana, Mangalore, recently.
The son Jagadish (24) is unable to walk because of a wound that just doesn’t heal. He requires frequent hospitalization for the same reason. The mother Sunanda Suresh is an employee in a cashew processing industry in Baikampady.
Recently, when Jagadish was sitting outside the hut and his mother had gone to get him some medicines, a gust of strong wind blew down the hut. A mixer-grinder, a television, utensils, and other household articles were crushed beneath the hut. A hapless Sunanda says that she is unable to repair the hut without help. Moreover, she had got the electricity connection recently by paying a sum of Rs 7,000 so that her son could watch television.
Sunanda’s husband had died when Jagadish was only 15 days old. The family has been living in the hut for nearly 30 years.
The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) cannot help them because the hut has no door number. But, Santhosh Kumar, the local councillor, said that he would try to raise some money for the little family.
