Hotelier of Udupi origin escapes attempt on life in Pune

Udupi, Dec 3, 2012 : A hotelier in Pune, who hails from   Udupi, escaped an attempted on his life on December 2, Sunday afternoon at Pune.

Santosh Shetty Mattar was at his Prithvi Veg Restaurant when two unidentified assailants who arrived in a bike fired  at him. CCTV footages revealed that the bike bound assailants who were wearing helmets were waiting for Shettar to sit at the cash counter of his hotel.

Reports said a police officer who was having lunch at the hotel,  rose to the occasion and fired back at the assailants who however managed to flee.

It is learnt that an extortion bid had led to the shootout. However, It is not yet known if Shetty had received any threatening call.
