Mangaluru, Sep 30, 2015 : The regular residents from Jokatte, Kenjar and Arikere, including district Congress Committee vice-president Mohammed, complained to DK DC Adoor.B. Ibrahim that black dust particles had been settling on their houses around 8 p.m. Sept 27. Officials from pollution board and MRPL visited the area.
Senior Environment Officer N. Laxman said the deposits were shiny. MRPL officials admitted that it was from the pet coke unit. Laxman said samples had been collected by KSPCB and MRPL and they would be analysed independently. Laxman said a team of KSPCB officials visited the plant on Sept 28.
The KSPCB and the MRPL officials were looking into the process of coke production to identify the source of this discharge and ways to plug it.
