Mangalore, April 16: IMA Mangalore Branch will be hosting the IMA Medicon 2010 state conference in the month of October, 2010.


IMA Medicon is the annual medical conference of Indian Medical Association. It will take place on 30th and 31st October 2010 at Dr.  TMA Pai International Convention Centre, MG Road, Mangalore. The convention center is the largest air-conditioned auditorium complex in Asia and possesses all modern facilities required to conduct such a conference. There will also be preconference state committee meetings on 29th October. These meetings will take place at Dr. A.V. Rao Auditorium, IMA House, Attavar, Mangalore. 


This prestigious event is being held in Mangalore after a gap of 17 years and it will witness the grand amalgamation of the medical professionals from all over the country including some top brains of the field with national and international reputation. Several high level orations and scientific sessions make this a significant event for the medical community.


Though the conference is a regular annual event for IMA, the conference to be hosted by the Mangalore chapter of IMA is likely to be different in all aspects. Apart from focusing on the exchange of knowledge, enhancement of professional skills etc, the event would deal with certain crucial issues which have posed challenges to the medical fraternity at large. 


However, what makes this year’s conference a unique one is that it is being held in Mangalore, the epicenter of commercial, educational and modern health care activities. The region enjoys the credit of giving birth to many persons and institutions of repute.


Today, this region has earned a name as the center for quality health care and medical education with good number of patients from outside the country visiting for the purpose of treatment. The hospitals here are equipped with state of art clinical facilities and have conducted trend-setting surgeries. These institutions have also produced many doctors of national and international repute who have enriched the medical field with their valuable contributions and research activities.
Likewise, in recent times the region has given birth to the medical colleges offering quality education both in the under graduate and postgraduate level. The organizing committee formed with Dr. A.V. Shetty as the Conference Chairman and Dr K Mohandas Bhandary as the Conference Secretary is all set make a success of this event.


The IMA Mangalore Branch, which is spearheading this event, is one of the vibrant branches of IMA. IMA was established in the year 1924 and the Mangalore branch was founded in 1930, making it one of the oldest IMA branches in the country. Today it has its own building and is engaged in several activities for the individual development of members, development of the professional and the society at large.
Moreover, what makes Mangalore a special place to visit and enjoy is the hospitality and culture, which city is famous for. Mangalore is the only city of Karnataka which is connected by all four modes of transport – Road, Rail, Sea and Air. New Mangalore Port is the only modern harbour of the state and Mangalore International Airport with night landing facility is the most important airport of the state after Bangalore.


Besides, mouth-watering delicacies, Mangalore also offers scope for both entertainment and spiritual activities. It has famous tourism destinations like Pilikula Nisargadhama, virgin beaches and pilgrimage centers like Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, Kukke Sri Subramanya Temple, Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple, Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, Sri Kshetra Kadri, Kudroli Sri Gokarnanathaeshwara Temple, St. Aloysius Chapel, Syed Madani Darga, Ullal etc in the surroundings.
