Mangaluru, Sep 15,2016: The zeal for making eco-friendly Ganesha idols has made enthusiasts of Udupi to bring out creativity. Adding to the list of youngsters, who are making a name for themselves with creation of Ganesha idol with unique materials is Mahesh, a youth from Marne.
Mahesh has got his name entered in the ’India Book of Records’ for making statue of Ganesha using ice-cream sticks and matchsticks. Being a professional stage decorator, every year he creates different and innovative Ganesha idols. In 2015, he had made a 27x17 inch statue using 3,500 ice-cream sticks and 750 matchsticks. This year he got the record confirmation certificate.
"Ever since the eco-friendly Ganesha concept has been introduced, we artists strive to prepare new and innovative Ganesha idol. It is not just that the statue has to be eco -friendly but also the stage decoration. Once a person takes idol for immersion, rest of the place is left unhygienic, Hence it is better to be eco- friendly even in decorating the stage for a festival," he said.
"I have already prepared many eco-friendly idols like Ganesha with vegetables, chalk pieces, glass, and in paper pulp. After all that, I wanted to do something to get my name into the Limca Book of Records. Before that I thought of trying it with "India Book of Records". I had to spend Rs 2,500 towards the processing fees. The team helped me to get the recognition for my talent. Now I have got the confidence and soon I will try to get my name in the Limca Book of Records too.
