Illegally extracted sand seized in Thumbe

Mangaluru, Mar 6, 2017: A team of policemen and officials from Mines and Geology Department on Saturday seized sand illegally extracted from the Netravathi river in Thumbe.

According to a press note, the team, led by probationary IPS officer D.L. Prakash, raided a shed on the banks of the Netravathi.

The team seized 130 loads of sand and 27 boats used for sand extraction. The value of the material seized was put at Rs. 17 lakh, the release said.

Arrested

The Puttur Rural Police arrested Mansoor (31) of Gurupura who was among the seven persons allegedly attempting to rob motorists of valuables in Madnur village on the Mani-Mysuru Highway on Saturday morning.

The police said that, on a tip-off, they raided the place and found seven accused blocking the highway using their two cars.

When the police came near the spot, six of them managed to escape in a car while Mansoor was arrested.

The police said that the seven persons were also attempting to take away in the vehicle cattle lying unattended by the roadside.

The police have launched a search for the absconding accused persons.
